Background of Naath Community Development Organization

NaathCommunity Development Organization (NCDO) is a non-governmental, non-profit,and non-political organization founded to address the urgent social, economic,and peacebuilding needs of vulnerable communities in the Gambella region of Ethiopia. Officially registered with the Ethiopian Civil Society OrganizationsAuthority on October 16, 2023, under registration number 0211, NCDO wasestablished by committed local leaders and development practitioners determinedto bring lasting change from the grassroots level.




The organization was founded in response to the complex challenges facing theregion, including recurring conflict, displacement, poverty, and lack of accessto basic services. NCDO recognizes that sustainable development and peacefulcoexistence require community-driven solutions that empower individuals, buildtrust among diverse groups, and improve livelihoods.



Core Focus Areas

  • Peace building and Conflict Resolution: Establishing community peace committees, promoting inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogue, and supporting local mediation efforts.
  • Livelihood and Economic Empowerment: Providing vocational training, startup support, and small business development for youth and women to strengthen economicself-sufficiency.
  • Education and Capacity Building: Enhancing access to education and life skills training,especially for marginalized youth and women, to enable active participation incommunity development.
  • Community Health and Wellbeing: Promoting preventive health practices, hygiene, andnutrition education to improve overall community health.

Since its formal registration, NCDO has already mobilized local peace-building committees, provided livelihood training to hundreds of youths and women, and launched public health campaigns addressing hygiene and nutrition. The organization continues to collaborate closely with local government, international partners, and other NGOs to scale its impact and achieve its mission.
